Rundown Between Second and Third

Ball Bag Backup

• P Pitcher Backup After you start the play, get off the mound and back up third behind the chase.
• C Catcher Bag Hold the plate — never leave home empty during a rundown.
• 1B First Base Backup Shade toward second base in case the rundown turns back your way.
• 2B Second Base Bag Cover second behind the chase — you're the back end if the runner turns around.
• 3B Third Base Ball Hold third ahead of the runner, take the throw moving forward, and make the tag.
• SS Shortstop Ball Take the pickoff at second; when the runner breaks, sprint AT him full speed — make him commit, then throw once, ahead of him.
• LF Left Field Backup Back up third from the outfield side — overthrows come to you.
• CF Center Field Backup Back up second base from straightaway center.
• RF Right Field Backup Move in toward second — every extra glove shrinks the field.
